How to photograph some amazing Christmas lights this season!
With DSLR cameras being so common and accessible nowadays, getting some great shots of the beautiful lights on your Christmas tree can be super easy! I love playing with the lights and different shapes! Check out a few images from this season, I included my all of the details :) Check out this year's post with Mickey Mouse!
My setup! :) Husband's flashlight on his phone pointed towards the ornament.
1. Set your camera in Manual (M)
2. Set your focus in Manual (on your lens)
3. Shutter speed 1/25
4. Apeture 3.5
5. ISO 2500
6. White Balance Kelvin 6000
Results!
Now here's the fun part! Playing with shapes! You can use all different types of shapes, I love the heart, though. Hold the shape over your lens and shoot through it... see what you get!
1. Set your camera in Manual (M)
2. Set your focus in Manual (on your lens)
3. Shutter speed 1/25
4. Apeture 1.4
5. ISO 1000
6. White Balance Kelvin 6000
Tah Dah!
Now you try!
Don't forget to steady yourself, as setting your shutter speed at 1/25 may cause some shake! Take a deep breath, lean up against something or use a tripod!
The larger your apeature, the better the outcome. I was able to go down to a 1.4, using my Sigma Art 50mm. (LOVE).
Bumping your ISO up will cause grain. I toned mine down in ACR (shooting raw over here). I bumped the luminance slide +30.
Images are almost SOOC, with a little adjustments with the curves. I was going to show a side by side comparison, but they look almost identical, it wasn't worth it.
If I didn't go into enough detail about something, just shoot me an email! I'd be happy to answer any questions!
Enjoy!
